How to wire up an alarm LED?

When you want to wire up an alarm LED on your CityBug it's a small job if you know what to do. First of all buy an alarm LED including some wiring. I bought one myself from Conrad Electronics, see this link. When you follow the instruction below the alarm LED will blink when the ignition is off and the alarm LED will not blink if the ignition is on.

When you have the alarm LED you have to remove the stereo/switch panel to get to the ISO connectors at the back of the radio.

How to remove the stereo/switch panel?
• Gently pull off the grey fan speed knob, it just pops out.
• It will reveal a black self tapper screw with a Phillips head.
• Unsrcew the screw and remove it.
• Try and get you fingertips under the lip at the bottom of the stereo/switch panel and pull gently towards you and slightly upwards. The complete panel including switches pops out. Don't yank it or prise it with anything, just use both hands and pull it gently towards you. It makes quite a "pop" when it come out.
• Unplug the complete wiring from the stereo. There is a little retaining tab on the connectors, you press it and you can pull them out then.
• Refitting just requires you to reconnect wiring, and slide all back in. Then refit panel, it just pushes into place.

When you have unplugged all wiring you have 2 small ISO connectors, a black one and a white one. To wire up the alarm LED you need the black ISO connector to hook it up. The black ISO connector will look like this.

The first thing to do after you have removed and unplugged the stereo/switch panel is to look for a place where to put the alarm LED. I my case I installed it in the middle of the top of the stereo/switch panel. You have to drill a small hole to put the alarm LED in and after that you have to wire the alarm LED to the black ISO connector.

Take the black ISO connector and connect the black wire of the alarm LED to possition A4 of the ISO connector (grey wire in my case) and you need to connect the red wire of the alarm LED to possition A7 of the ISO connector (blue wire in my case). When this is done the alarm LED is completely wired up and ready to do the job. After you have connected the alarm LED you have to refit the stereo/switch panel again. And the modification is done!!
